Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Kalimat, our APIs, and getting started.

About Kalimat

Kalimat is an Islamic API provider. We build the data infrastructure that developers need to create better Islamic apps. We currently offer the Quran & Hadith Search API and the Prayer Times API, giving teams public documentation and reliable infrastructure for core Islamic experiences. Our goal is to give every developer reliable access to Islamic knowledge so they can focus on building great experiences instead of sourcing raw data.

Yes. Kalimat offers a free tier for personal and non-commercial use. No credit card required. Request an API key in minutes and start building right away. For higher usage or commercial use, paid plans are available.

Fill out the short request form to get your API key. It takes under two minutes. Once approved, you'll receive credentials that work across current Kalimat APIs, including Search and Prayer Times. Check the documentation for integration guides, live examples, and endpoint references.
Quran & Hadith Search API

The Search API lets your users search Islamic texts by meaning, not just exact keywords. Search for “Ayat al-Kursi” and it instantly returns Quran 2:255. Search “patience in hardship” and find every relevant verse, even when those exact words never appear in the text. It works across the Quran, all six authentic Hadith collections, and Athkar, in over 130 translations.

Quran: all 114 surahs, with translations in multiple languages.
Hadith: the six authentic (Sahih Sittah) collections: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Nasa’i, and Sunan Ibn Majah.
Athkar: daily supplications and Islamic remembrances.

Over 130 translations, including Arabic, English, Urdu, Turkish, French, Indonesian, and many more. You can search in any supported language and get matching results with translations, making it practical for apps serving Muslim communities worldwide.

Most Quran APIs offer basic keyword search. Kalimat's AI models understand meaning and context, so it works even when users don't know the exact wording of a verse. It's also the only API that unifies Quran, all six major Hadith collections, and Athkar in a single place. Trusted by Quran.com, it powers over 1 million monthly searches.
Prayer Times API Live

The Prayer Times API returns prayer times for today, a specific date, or a date range. Provide latitude, longitude, and a country code, and Kalimat resolves the nearest supported city before returning the matched location, resolved period, and daily prayer times in that city's timezone.

Every request must include lat, lng, and country_code. You can then either omit period parameters to get today's prayer times, send date for a single Gregorian day, or send start_date together with end_date for a range query. A single-day request cannot be mixed with a range request.

Yes. Use start_date and end_date to request a range, and keep the window to 366 days or less. Requested dates must also stay within one year in the past or future relative to the matched city's current date.

Request a Kalimat API key, then follow the public Prayer Times API docs. Authenticate requests with the X-Api-Key header and start with GET /api/v2/prayer-times for today, a single date, or a date range.
